Lunchtime Chat with... Nguyen Thi Anh Dao (Senior Manager, Advertiser Engagement)

With another all-hands just passed, we have new MVPs to speak to! This time, we head to Vietnam to talk with Nguyen Thi Anh Dao, Senior Manager in the Advertiser Engagement team, to talk about how much her role and responsibilities have grown since she started in the company, and what the most rewarding part of her job is.

– Tell us about your prior work experience.

Before joining AnyMind Group, I spent over four years in the marketing industry, working on both B2C and B2B projects, as well as two years in a startup advertising technology company. In the marketing field, I specialize in planning and execution for digital campaigns, and my time in the ad tech startup provided me with a strong understanding of digital platforms and the various digital marketing tools and how best to implement them.

– Tell us more about your role in AnyMind Group.

My role has grown and developed since I first joined; initially, I was tasked with developing the client success team in the Hanoi office, but with the team having grown so quickly, my current role is much wider in scope. Generally, I work to develop the Hanoi office, guided by two main goals: optimising the team’s performance, and people engagement.

– What attracted you to join AnyMind Group?

First of all, joining a startup was a very attractive prospect to me because of the opportunities available to make a big impact on the growth of the company. I believe that I can truly enjoy the value of hard work, ownership, and self-sustainability.

Secondly, it was the people! They are the most intelligent, hardworking and humble (also, super cool!) people I’ve ever worked with. Working alongside these extremely talented, dedicated and driven people is absolutely amazing.

The atmosphere here is rapid and exciting. I could tell from the start that this would be an interesting adventure. I wasn’t wrong! 😄

– Before joining AnyMind Group, what did you know about the advertising industry?

Even though I had four years of experience in this field prior to joining AnyMind, it was only after becoming a part of the team here that I really got the opportunity to dive deep into how things work. It’s given me the ability to provide better advice and insight to clients!

– How has it been so far and what do you enjoy the most about your role?

Easily, the most rewarding part of my job is the growth and achievements of my team members. Everything that I do is aimed at helping them develop, both as professionals as well as on a personal level 😄

Aside from that, I enjoy the way that this job challenges me; I enjoy the responsibilities entrusted to me, and the precise and methodical nature of my work. It’s all necessary to put together actionable insights to upper management!

– How has your role and the company evolved over the time you’ve been with the company?

Like I mentioned before, my role has grown along with the company. And with the Hanoi team expanding so quickly, I’ve had the chance to work with a very wide and diverse range of personalities!

Of course, this isn’t limited to Vietnam. We work closely with teammates from all across the nine countries we currently have offices in. Every day provides something new to learn!

– Tell us more about your personality.

Personalities are complex, but put simply, I would say that I’m outgoing and love getting to know people. I enjoy having conversations with people, and it could be about anything under the sun! I try to have fun and be able to laugh at things most of the time, but can totally be super serious when I have to as well (i.e. at work!) 😠

But like I said, personalities are complex, and that applies to everyone! Getting to know someone, anyone, is possibly the most interesting thing one could do. To that end, it pays to be flexible and empathetic.

– What tips or advice do you have for your co-workers?

As someone who is tasked with leading a team, I’ve actually developed a list of tips and advice for co-workers over time! Here are some of them:

– Look to the future but don’t forget the present – Face fears head-on and overcome them – Leave no man behind – Personal accountability is key – Lead by example even when there is no path – Character is more important than reputation

There are others, but these are the main ones!

– What is the one thing you can’t live without?

Oxygen.

Okay, bad jokes aside, it’s got to be books! You can never read enough, in my opinion. I particularly enjoy books on behavioural psychology.
